James A. Dobbs 1933-2010
He was a member of Soddy Community Chapel Assembly of God. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS DeHaven DD-727 and was a member of the USS DeHaven Sailors Association. He was also in the National Guard. He retired from Combustion Engineering in 1982. Jim also operated Jim's Paint and Body Shop for several years, which was noted to be the best paint and body shop around. He loved painting signs for all the local schools, churches and the City of Soddy-Daisy. After his retirement from Combustion Engineering, he was hired by his good friend Jim Smithson to teach Auto Body for 5 years at Chattanooga State. At that time he developed Parkinson's Disease and was forced to retire. He loved his family and friends and will be remembered by his smile and his quick humor. The family would like to thank the following people for their care, support and love: Memorial Home Health, Amedisys Hospice and good friend, Dr. Collin Cherry. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years, Jessie; son, Tony (Lee) Dobbs; daughters, Stephanie (Mark) Keith, Gina (Chad) Tabor, Angie (Brent) Arnold; grandchildren, Austin and Jared Dobbs, Justin and Jessica Keith, Will and Mattie Tabor and Dylan Arnold; stepmother, Joyce Dobbs; sister, Virginia Davis. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Edward Stotts and Brother Clayton Privett officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Tennessee Tech Baseball Department and the Tennessee Wesleyan College in his honor.

James Arthur Dobbs, 77, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on Apr. 17, 1933, he was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Dobbs and Mattie D. Dobbs; brothers, Carl E. and Homer H. Dobbs and sister, Lois Owens.
