Harold C. "Hal" Smith 1930-2021
After graduating from Miami on a Navy ROTC Scholarship, he served his country during the Korean War.He was a LTJG aboard the USS DeHaven DD-727 from 1952-1955. Hal retired from Western Electric in 1988. He was a member of the Gender Road Christian Church and the Telephone Pioneers. In 2015, Hal was elected to the Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for his volunteer work over the years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma Louise “Lou” (Garber) Smith; son, Kirk Smith; daughter, Heidi (Dave) Eveleigh; son, Trent (Julie) Smith; grandchildren, Travis (Emily), Elizabeth (Bryce), Michael, Trevor and Brendan; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Lily. Hal is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris.
