Walter W. Pusey 1922-2011

HEDERSONVILLE: Walter Wesley Pusey, 89, of Hendersonville, passed away on July 23, 2011 at the Carolina Village Medical Center.  He was born on July 14, 1922 in Springfield, Illinois to the late William Carlock Pusey and Amelia Florence Shrewsbury Pusey.  His sister, Mary L. Pusey Brown, and brother, William S. Pusey, also preceded him in death. 

Mr. Pusey grew up in Decatur, Illinois and proudly volunteered to serve his country during World War II. He joined the Navy and served for four years.  Aboard the destroyer USS DeHaven DD-727, he witnessed the ending of the war in Tokyo Bay. 

He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and the Valparaiso University School of Law.  Mr. Pusey was a 32nd Degree Mason and life-long member of the Episcopal Church.  Mr. Pusey worked in the insurance industry where he applied his legal training throughout his career.

He and his wife Martha raised their three children in Erie, Pennsylvania and Waterville, Ohio.  They retired to Indian Hill in Hendersonville, North Carolina in 1989 and moved to Carolina Village in 2009.  Walt enjoyed travel, reading and working in his yard. In his retirement, he took up bird carving and painting.

Above all Walt loved his family.  He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Martha McCloud Pusey; sons, Walter M. Pusey and his wife, Jeanne, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and their children, Wes and Anne; John W. Pusey of Eugene, Oregon and his sons, Caleb and Jacob; daughter, Melissa Pusey Jackson and her husband, Marvin, of Lewis Center, Ohio and their children, Nathan, Kirk, Ron and Sherri. 

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Walt Pusey will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 5, 2011 in the Carolina Village Hall, 600 Carolina Village Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792.   A private service for family members and the interment will take place at St. James Episcopal Church on the same date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund of Carolina Village, 600 Carolina Village Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792 or to St. James Episcopal Church, 766 North Main Street, Hendersonville, NC 28791.
