Harry T. Savas 1938-2010

Harry T. Savas, 71, of Longmeadow, MA died Friday morning February 12, 2010 at his home.

Harry, a son of Anna (Radewick) Savas of Longmeadow and the late Thomas Savas, was born in Springfield on May 26, 1938. Raised in Springfield, Harry graduated from the old Springfield Technical High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from American International College. While in high school, Harry was a star left handed pitcher. Harry sang in the Four Guys Barber Shop Quartet and they vowed to stay in touch. To do this they cut a dollar bill in quarters. In fifty years they were to have a special reunion to put the bill back together again, which they did in 2004. Harry was employed as a material handling salesman for many years at the Robert Warner Company and retired in 2000. Harry has resided in Longmeadow for many years, was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Harry served his country during peacetime with the United States Navy.

In addition to his father, Harry was predeceased by his wife of 42 years Judith C. (King) Savas. He is survived by two sisters, Jean Baldyga and her husband Eugene of Springfield and Barbara Savas of Longmeadow; a sister-in-law, Susan King of Palmer; a niece Doreen Mondry Bylicki of Ludlow; a nephew, Michael Baldyga of Springfield; two great nephews, Matthew and Andrew Mondry; a longtime friend, Robert Maccarini and his wife Ann of East Longmeadow; and his parrot Sammy.
