| Charlie Harrington writes, “The patches, of which there are only two, were sewn in Sasebo, Japan shortly after the Korean war began. Roy F. Cooper, of Birmingham, Alabama, and I had them made from the decoration on the black matchbook that they sold in Ship's Service at that time. The Seahorse was in silver, on the black background with a silver ring encircling it. We just had the background colors changed on our own. I think the young Lady that did the patches said they wouldn't look good in all black.” |
